Baby Boomers- Stuck in the Middle

There are approximately 78 million baby boomers living in the U.S., and they began turning 65 last year. In previous generations, the mid-60s were years that marked retirement. However when their lives are (traditionally) supposed to become easier, baby boomers instead experience an increase in workload and stress levels.  Between paying the bills, securing retirement plans and caring for family, what is in place to make sure that baby boomers are healthy, happy and ready to live comfortable and independent lives during their senior years?

Planning for Retirement

One of the main concerns for people born during the baby boom is their upcoming retirement. Some baby boomers face the tough reality of pushing back their retirement. Since many baby boomers may be healthy now, they have a hard time making healthcare plans for their retirement years. Planning ahead is always a good idea, and home care is a versatile service to consider in retirement plans. From having a companion, to help around the house, home care can be the low maintenance care baby boomers need as they age in place.

Respite Care for Spouses and Parents

Another concern for many baby boomers is budgeting their time between caring for their aging parents (now in their 80s and 90s) as well as their children and grandchildren. According to caregiver.org, the number of hours dedicated to caregiving increases with the age of the caregiver. Since a baby boomer turns 65 about every 10 seconds, this means that the amount of time spent as a family caregiver will only increase for them.

Like anyone fulfilling the role of family caregiver, baby boomers may feel stretched between their responsibilities. It is important that baby boomers are aware that respite care (or professional care for their loved ones) is an option. SYNERGY HomeCare helps many family caregivers who are baby boomers, and we have seen a big improvement in their quality of life.

Prevent Long-Term Health Problems

Baby boomers are often avid participants in sports and other physical activities. Just because someone is in their 50s or 60s does not means they are less active or energetic. It does mean that if they incur injury, have chest pain, or experience other discomforts during their exercise, they should take special precaution. Being careful now will protect their long term health. SYNERGY HomeCare provides the short term assistance that baby boomers may need as they recover from injury, heart attacks, surgery or other medical procedures.

SYNERGY HomeCare is here to help people in the baby boomer generation by helping them protect their  well being and autonomy during their retirement. If you are a baby boomer, or are interested in how you can help your loved ones, please contact us today.
