Alzheimer’s Association Unveils Two Caregiver Resources
November is observed across the country as both National Family Caregivers and National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month, so it’s a good time to recognize the challenges associated with providing home care for loved ones with the disease. In an effort to help caregivers, the Alzheimer’s Association recently launched the Alzheimer’s Navigator and ALZConnected, reports the Spectrum & Daily News.
Both resources are free and designed to help users provide better care to their family members. For instance, the Alzheimer’s Navigator relies on a survey that caregivers can take to provide them with tips ranging from financial planning to helping their loved ones complete daily activities.
ALZConnected takes a cue from popular social networking websites and is designed to help caregivers get in touch with other people who understand their challenges. Among the most beneficial features includes a section where users can post questions and receive feedback from fellow caregivers.
“Caring for someone with Alzheimer’s can feel isolating at times and many caregivers put their own needs on the back burner,” Jack Jenks, executive director of Alzheimer’s Association, Utah Chapter, told the newspaper.
Such resources are especially important given the prevalence of Alzheimer’s. According to the Family Caregiver Alliance, approximately 14.9 million people care for someone over the age of 50 who has the condition.
