Senior Citizens Day

“It’s not the years in your life that count, it’s the life in your years”. ~ President Abraham Lincoln

Time to celebrate: today is Senior Citizens Day! Since 1988, people across the country have taken this day to remember their elders and spend time with seniors.

Senior Citizens Day was proclaimed a national holiday by President Ronald Reagan. In his speech, he declared, “For all they have achieved throughout life and for all they continue to accomplish, we owe older citizens our thanks and a heartfelt salute”.

If you are a senior citizen, celebrate the day by visiting your favorite restaurant or spending time with close friends and family. Be proud to be a senior citizen!

SYNERGY HomeCare is the in-home care provider for many people that are in their senior years. Since we visit these seniors in their homes, we have the honor of seeing them every day. However, we realize that many people don’t get to spend time with their grandparents, or other senior loved ones on a regular basis. If you live close to your senior family member, take some time to stop by their home and let them know that you appreciate and love them.

If you live far away from your senior loved one, why not brighten the day of a senior near you? You can volunteer at an event dedicated to Senior Citizens Day or visit a retirement community. Play cards or read a book with the residents of a nursing home. Spending time with a person can make them feel special and brighten their day. Not only that, but you will create new relationships you may otherwise never have.

Everyone who works for SYNERGY HomeCare knows spending time with seniors is important. We appreciate the experience and perspective that seniors add to our lives, and will continue to help them live comfortably and independently in their homes.

Do you know a senior whos life could benefit from a little bit of companionship or personal care? Let us know!
