World Autism Day

Today is World Autism Awareness Day! Autism organizations around the world celebrate this day as a day to honor and bring awareness to those with autism. Autism is a complex disorder of brain development. They are characterized by their difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repeatitive behaviior. Autism can also be associated with intellectual disabilities, attention and helath issues, and difficulties in motor coordination.

Autism signs and symptoms don't seem to appear until between the ages of 2 and 3 although there continues to be funding for research on earlier diagnosis! Early intervention and behavioral therapy hsve proven to help tremendously with children who have autism as well as other intellectual difficulties and disablitlties. Increasing awareness is the key to helping bring awareness and acceptance to autism
