Are You Doing These Four Things as a Family Caregiver?

Home Care in Gilbert AZKeeping yourself going might feel difficult some days when you're a family caregiver. You might find yourself running on coffee and sugar more often than anything else. Here are some other things you should be doing to keep yourself healthy.

Seeing Your Own Doctor

When you first start focusing on your own health, your doctor is a natural first stop. Seeing your doctor enables you to take stock of your current health and find out if there's anything that you should be concerned about. It's a good idea to have a physical once a year, just to be on the safe side. If you're concerned about how long that might take, have other family members or home care providers stay with your loved one so you can focus on your appointment.

Moving Your Body

Your doctor can let you know how much exercise you really need to be getting. Using that information as a guideline, start moving your body more often. You might find that you enjoy stretching and learning how to keep your body limber, so yoga might be an option. If you need to sweat some frustration out, perhaps power walking or even jogging are more your speed. Regardless, keep your overall health in mind and don't worry about going too fast with your new exercise plan.

Sleeping Enough

Getting enough sleep is an often-overlooked aspect of your self-care plan. If you're not sleeping well or enough, your body doesn't have the rest that it needs to recharge itself. During sleep is when your cells repair themselves. Having plenty of sleep keeps your brain sharp and gives you energy for your day. If you're not sleeping well, talk to your doctor to rule out potential medical causes.

Eating the Right Foods

Food is the fuel on which your body runs. Much like your car, if you're putting poor quality fuel in your tank, your body isn't going to run as well as it could. Start gradually phasing out convenience and fast foods and adding in vegetables, fruits, lean proteins, and whole grains. You'll start noticing a huge difference in how your body feels and how you're able to manage each day.
The better that you care for yourself, the more able you'll be to take care of your loved one. Take the time to map out a care plan for yourself and everything in your life will benefit.

Mike Endredy, Owner
Mike has been involved with home care for the last 11 years as the owner of SYNERGY HomeCare of the East Valley (Phoenix AZ).
Mike was brought to the home care industry like many folks through a need to care for my father near the end of his life.
"Although my mother was the primary caregiver there was not a service to use that can offer relief for my mother and from 2,000 miles away I was not able to provide the care personally he needed.  It was however, a few years after my father's passing that I personally decided to change careers, leaving a career in engineering.  I have never looked back.  Making a difference in people's lives changes you more profoundly than anything and I love that experience.  In the eleven years of making a difference my exceptional team of caregivers and staff have made a difference through providing over 2 million hours worth of care.  This journey is just beginning.  Making a difference in somebody's life or a family members life is why I do what I do.  The hurdles, the heartbreak and the pain that comes makes me stronger and more determined to help another. " - Mike Endredy
