Do you or a loved one have concerns about falling?  At SYNERGY HomeCare, we recognize the dangers that falls can present to seniors.

Consider the statistics:

  • One out of three older adults (those aged 65 or older) falls each year.
  • Among older adults, falls are the leading cause of both fatal and nonfatal injuries.
  • In 2010, over two million nonfatal fall injuries among older adults were treated in emergency departments, with over 600,000 of those patients hospitalized as a result.

This is why we’re proud to be able to offer a program called A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls.  This program was developed by the Roybal Center for Enhancement of Late-Life Function at Boston University, and the New England Research Institutes, and has been shown to have immediate results, including:

  • Decreased fear of falling
  • Increased confidence in handling falls
  • Increased activity levels & mobility control
  • Enhanced social activity
  • Increased mobility range

The program, consisting of eight two-hour sessions meeting twice a week, includes a variety of activities, including discussion, problem solving, and exercise training designed to help seniors learn to:

  • View falls as controllable
  • Set goals for increasing activity
  • Make changes to reduce fall risks at home
  • Exercise to increase strength and balance

This course is designed for:

  • Anyone concerned about falls
  • Anyone interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength
  • Anyone who has fallen in the past
  • Anyone who has restricted activities because of falling concerns
