Almost all of us remember exactly where we were when we learned of the September 11 attacks on New York City and Washington, DC. And unlike any other event in history, our nation watched it unfold, right before our eyes. At the time it never seemed possible that the day would not be primarily about pain and loss. I know even for myself, eleven years later, there are still things about that day that I find hard to watch or painful to remember.
But this nation has always found its strength in its ability, and its desire, to help those around us, and that is where we are finding healing on September 11. The September 11 th National Day of Service and Remembrance is a great example of this. This is a great way to make 9/11 about more than a moment of silence in remembrance of a tragedy. Thanks to all who are a part of this.
