Recent studies say roughly 35 percent of Americans are able to donate blood, but not even 10 percent do. The reason for this is that people do not understand the critical need for blood donations. This month there are individuals and businesses everywhere doing their part in spreading awareness. We do our part at SYNERGY HomeCare by reminding and asking friends, family, and our employees to think about donating blood. Often all it takes is a reminder, or the needed knowledge and facts to get us to donate.
Why January? This month, more than the other eleven, blood donations are needed desperately. The American Red Cross reports that the blood supply in our nation reaches a critical low during the winter months. People donate less during the holidays and colder months due to illness, busy schedules, and inclement weather.
Good to know…
- Donating just one pint of blood can save the lives of three people.
- If you regularly donate you can help save around eighteen lives in one given year.
- Life-threatening injuries from an automobile accident require 50 plus pints of blood.
- In America roughly 39,000 pints of blood are needed daily to meet the given demands.
