Job Fairs

  • Don't just drop your resume on the recruiter's table and walk off.
  • Prepare a short introduction about yourself and your experience, skills, and abilities.
  • Be prepared for common interview questions on the spot.
  • Know your availability.
  • Have references ready.
  • Don't be afraid or intimidated by the recruiter.  We want to like you.  We are looking for reasons to hire you.
  • Ask questions.
  • Notice the recruiter's name.  Take their business card if they have one there, and you are interested.
  • Don't chew gum.
  • Dress professionally.  For our jobs, scrubs are actually fine at a job fair.  If you want to dress up, that's fine too.
  • If you have tattoos, cover them.  You would be expected to do that on your assignments too.
  • Your hair should be dyed in naturally existing hair colors.
  • Make eye contact.
  • Have a firm handshake.
  • Smile.
  • If there are others waiting to speak with the recruiter, wrap your conversation up and get contact information for a next step.
  • Wait your turn to speak with the recruiter.
  • Don't ever say anything negative to the recruiter about your college or previous jobs, companies, or supervisors.
  • Ask about the hiring process.
  • Ask about the next step in the process.
  • If you are interested, send the recruiter a follow-up email or letter.
