Spring and Summer 2013 Class Series for Caregivers and Care Partners



Classes are offered free of charge thanks to generous grants from the Sequoia Healthcare District and the Peninsula Health Care District .  Classes are not for professional caregivers.  To register for a class please call 650.592.9325 .

 

New Dementia Care Strategies for Family Caregivers -  This two-hour overview introduces the latest, most effective strategies for dementia care, and will be helpful for caregivers with all levels of experience.  Among the topics we will cover are: basics of dementia, mindfulness based stress reduction, activities of daily living, challenging behaviors, how to engage your loved one, and where to find extra information and assistance.

Instructor: Marguerite Manteau-Rao, is the Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Case Management Supervisor at Catholic Charities CYO San Carlos Adult Day Services.  She is a Mindfulness based psychotherapist, and ATR (Registered Art Therapist), also trained in cognitive therapy and mindfulness practice.  She is the co-founder, of the Presence Care Project, a new, innovative mindfulness-based dementia care program for care partners of persons with dementia. 

 

Keeping Your Loved One Engaged at Home: Strategies for Dementia Caregivers -  Few of us are prepared for the challenges of caring for a family member or friend, especially when memory loss and confusion are part of the picture.  During this class the topics we will cover are: enhancing activities based on a person's skills, abilities, and interests; utilizing effective communication; strategies to make your loved one feel valued by providing opportunities to contribute; and where to find resources in the community.  This class will be offered at the following locations:
