More than one million Americans currently have Parkinson’s Disease, and each year there are more than fifty thousand new cases reported. Those are big and scary numbers, but in the month of April we celebrate hope as scientists are working toward a cure.
We have started a Parkinson's support group here in Parker in partnership with the Life Care Center of Stonegate.
LCC of Stonegate has a great outpatient rehab program that has helped many patients with Parkinson's Disease, as have we. Parker did not have any support group anywhere close to here. We teamed up with them to spearhead a new group. The greatest benefit is getting local Parker and surrounding area residents together to talk about the struggles and battles with Parkinson's. We have been able to get a lot of great speakers from outside LCC of Stonegate, as well as use their own therapists to help with exercise programs and diet.
We are proud to join in on the focus and support that Parkinson’s Awareness Month brings to those faced with this disease. And for the rest of us, awareness and education are key. The more we learn about diseases facing us or those we love, the more power we have to get closer to a cure. We are always here for you if you could use support with caring for a loved one.
