July is National Grilling Month

Senior Care in North Branford CT

Senior Care in North Branford CTSince summer is a great time for cooking outside on the grill, July is observed as National Grilling Month. Grilling can be a great activity for seniors and caregivers, too, as it gives everyone the chance to enjoy a summer meal outdoors. Grilling is also a popular method of cooking for summer picnics and parties. If you and your loved one plan on grilling this July, it is important to be aware of some food safety guidelines that can help you grill in a safe and healthy way. Since food will be prepared outdoors, you may not take the same precautions as you would indoors, but foodborne illnesses can happen if you are not careful. Read on for some tips to help keep you and your loved one safe from foodborne illness this summer.

Keep Meat Cold After Purchasing It

Meat should always be refrigerated when it is not being cooked, but it can be hard to keep meat cold when shopping and transporting groceries back to the home. To keep meat cold for as long as possible, do all of your shopping at the store before picking up your meat. Put meat in the cart last. When you arrive at home, make sure that your meat is the first item to get placed in the refrigerator. If you do not live close to your grocery store, bring along an insulated shopping bag or cooler with ice in it to help keep the meat cold while in transit.

Thaw Before Grilling

To help your meat cook thoroughly and evenly, thaw frozen meats before placing them on the grill. This can be done by putting them in the refrigerator overnight or you can defrost them in the microwave. If you are using the microwave method, be sure to cook the meat right away after it has been thawed.

Use Clean Utensils

When grilling, be sure to use clean utensils and dishes. If you take raw meat out to the grill on a platter, do not use that same platter to place cooked meat on. Similarly, do not use the same utensils that you used on raw meat on cooked meat without cleaning them first.

Serve Food Hot

After your meat is finished cooking on the grill, make sure to eat it right away or shortly after. When you let cooked meat sit out at a warm temperature for too long, it can be at risk for bacteria growth.

Welcome to SYNERGY HomeCare of East Haven, CT. We are an agency that provides non-medical services such as companion care, homemaking, personal care , and respite care to individuals of all age groups. Our mission is to assist individuals to reach the maximum amount of independence they can achieve, and to improve the quality of life for those that are experiencing physical or mental disabilities. These disabilities may include, but are not limited to, stroke, Alzheimer's or other dementias, Parkinson’s disease, or cancer.

Hello, my name is Gordon Wall and I am the President and owner of SYNERGY HomeCare of East Haven, Ct. My wife and I have been in the medical field for 35 years as I am a Registered Pharmacist and my wife a Registered Nurse. Although SYNERGY HomeCare is a non-medical agency, together we have a long history of medical expertise that is beneficial in providing homecare services.

We understand the challenges, both physically and mentally, that are involved in caring for aging parents, as we have had our own personal experiences, and are aware of the demands it places on family members as they endeavor to maintain their own household/lives. We are very passionate about maintaining the integrity of the workers and the dignity of the clients. We strive to make aging and healing a beautiful part of life and realize the importance of staying in ones home to achieve this. Whatever age requires the service.....'There is no place like home'.

We specially train our caregivers/CNA's to meet the individualized needs per diagnosis. We instill in them the importance of treating each person with respect, compassion, and having empathy with their client. Each caregiver/CNA is CPR certified, they have evidence of negative TB testing, they are fully insured and a national criminal background check is performed. My wife works with each caregiver clinically before they are assigned to a client. Once assigned to a client, quality calls and visits are conducted to make sure the client/family is satisfied with the care they are receiving with their caregiver(s). There are times when a client is receiving medical care. We also can work side by side with a medical team in providing additional non-medical care.

As SYNERGY HomeCare of East Haven our service area consists of New Haven, East Haven, Branford, North Branford, Guilford, Madison, Northford, Wallingford, and Durham.
