June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month

Every 65 seconds someone in the United States develops Alzheimer’s. Currently, 5.7 Million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s and in our own home, the state of Georgia, it is estimated that more than 140,000 have Alzheimer's. That means that roughly 519,000 others are affected through their roles as caregivers.

Alzheimer's disease is a degenerative brain disease and the most common cause of dementia. It is a disease that gradually destroys memory and other vital mental functions commonly in elderly individuals. Dementia is a syndrome- a group of symptoms- that has a number of causes. The characteristic symptoms of dementia are difficulties with memory, language, problem-solving and other cognitive skills that affect a person’s ability to perform everyday activities.

How Can You Contribute?

The Longest Day 2018

The Alzheimer’s Association invites you to do what you love. The Longest Day is all about love. Love for all those affected by Alzheimer's disease. On the summer solstice, select any activity you love — or an activity loved by those affected — to help end Alzheimer’s. Together, we will raise funds and awareness for care and support while advancing research toward the first survivor of Alzheimer’s. Watch this 60-second video from the Alzheimer’s Association for inspiration!
