Happy New Year, from our family to yours!
We opened SYNERGY HomeCare in the Boston area last spring and set about establishing an office in Norwood. Hanging art on the walls gave us the opportunity to reflect on the importance of family, a key component to our home care agency. This blog is a peak into the art and our families--and our Synergy family.
Peter’s maternal aunt, Sally Dennison of Sandpoint, Idaho, is an established artist and sent us a number of watercolors to enliven the space. The Dennison family grew up in Framingham where their grandfather and then his son headed the Dennison Manufacturing Company until 1990, a business developed by ancestors who came from England in the 1600s. Though Peter’s mother moved to Greece and raised her family in Delphi and Athens, there were many trips back for Peter to visit the family in New England. And settling in the Boston area as an adult seemed like coming home to him.
Shannon’s family were immigrants from many parts of Europe in the 1800s and eventually settled in Kansas. Her great-grandmother on her dad’s side wrote about being raised in a sod house during the days of “40 acres and a mule.” When Shannon’s maternal grandmother, Mary Jane Peterson Moore, passed away in 2002, this cross-stitch was found among her things. The family isn’t sure whose work it is, but it's probably Shannon’s great grandmother Betty, dating back to the 1930’s or earlier. The frame shop was impressed by its age and great condition!
The cross-stitch is one of the first things people see when they enter our office in Norwood, because we want its message to set the tone for our business: “Warm friendship like the setting sun, sheds kindly light on everyone.” Home care is about family and friendship. It is about supporting others with compassion and empathy. We know that the gift of companionship and thoughtful care that our home care aides provide brings light into our clients’ lives, and we are honored to be part of that.
Family extends from our household of four, to the families of our parents and our ancestors. And it also extends to our community here in the Boston area. We want our care team at SYNERGY HomeCare of Boston Metro Southwest to be a family of individuals who are there for each other and for you. This includes the support we offer to our clients’ families as we listen to their needs, get to know their loved ones, and seek to provide the best care possible. This includes the caregivers who are carefully matched to clients based on personality, interests, and skills. We have had the pleasure of watching our clients and caregivers hug goodbye at the end of the day and of hearing how much peace and comfort has come into the home with their help.
Our stories of New England childhoods and Kansas farms are our family history, and we bring that to our work with Synergy Homecare. When we meet our clients, we learn their stories, and each caregiver brings his or her story to our agency, as well. Our lives are strengthened by the connections and ties we build and the ways we open ourselves to give to and receive from others. The art in our office reflects the love and support of our families, and it is the backdrop for the care and support we offer to our Synergy family.
As we welcome 2017, we pray that your family has peace, comfort, and joy in the coming year!
