Its National Rehabilitation Week (September 15th-21st)
At SYNERGY HomeCare we see many of our clients going through rehab and one stands out to us the most. Her name is Jeanette. She is 83 years old and still lives at home. When Jeannette started services with SYNERGY HomeCare she was only receiving two hours a day, two days a week. She ended up in the hospital and then into rehab. Once she returned home from rehab, her family decided she needed 24 hour care. Here is her story told by her daughter-in-law.
My mother-in-law Jeanette had had surgery, followed by 3 months of rehab. After her rehab she was still very weak and could not walk with a walker without assistance (and sometimes requiring 2 people to assist her). She was adamant about getting back to her own home. We believed that her outlook on life and her motivation would improve if we could get her home with assistance. We contacted SYNERGY HomeCare about providing 24-hour care for her in her home. At her first doctor’s appointment shortly after leaving the rehab, the doctor saw how frail she looked and did not think she would be with us very many months more.
With the help of a team of caregivers from SYNERGY HomeCare and some additional home rehab that the caregivers helped her continue, Jeanette began to improve. She allowed the caregivers to do her hair and nails. She began to eat better, gained some weight back, and within a few months was able use her walker without assistance. At her next 6-month doctor’s appointment the doctor was amazed at her improvement. She is now more willing to go out of the house and attend events and her whole demeanor is more like the “mom” we knew before.
I am certain that her improvement would not have happened without the compassionate care and positive atmosphere provided by the caregivers from SYNERGY HomeCare.
