The elderly citizens of Oakland County have a new 26 bed inpatient unit specially design for them at Royal Oak Beaumont.  The purpose of the unit is to maximize recovery so that elderly patients return home with the quality of life they had prior to hospitalization.

Well the signs of fall are here.  The temperature certainly is cooler than a month ago, the sun doesn’t rise till after 7 AM and the leaves are starting to change color.  What a fantastic time to get outside and go for a walk.  We under estimating benefits of walking.  Regardless of age, walking for few minutes per day will show significant improvements in a person endurance, flexibility and attitude.  This is especially beneficial for the elderly that are struggling to control their blood sugar.

Picture this, the phone rings; it’s an officer from the Rochester police department informing you that you 82 year old mother has been in a car accident.  She ran into another car in the shopping center parking lot.  She is not hurt.  Now you feel guilty.  You saw the warning signs, her concentration has been poor and she is forgetful, but you didn’t say anything.  Well you’re lucky no one was hurt.  But could you have prevented this in the first place?
