Let’s beat the holiday blues together! November is National Family Caregiver’s Month where SYNERGY HomeCare of Rochester salutes parents & children, siblings & spouses, as well as families & neighbors who day after day have their lives affected by a loved one who has an illness, disability, or injury. Thank you for playing this exhausting and difficult role while you’re protecting your loved ones pride.
While it’s very common for people to feel the blues during the holidays, take action to help them feel an attachment during the holidays by:
- Talk about it: Open up a conversation with your loved one so they know it’s okay to feel sad. Feeling sad from time to time is completely normal and discussing this with your loved one could help take that burden off of their shoulders.
- Be festive: Even though it seems logical to not decorate for the holidays if your loved one has the feelings of sadness in their own home, but did you know it’s healthy to have family come over and decorate their tree and play festive music? Encourage your loved ones to join in on the fun.
- Stay busy: Keep your loved ones active during the holiday season. Some suggestions include board games and card games, having friends and family take your loved one to the park for a nice scenic walk, volunteering at your local OPC (Older Person’s Commission) office, or going to the movie theatre.
SYNERGY HomeCare of Rochester says thank you to all of our family caregivers! You are truly protecting your loved ones pride.
