At Synergy HomeCare, the safety of our clients - your loved ones - is our number 1 priority. We are pleased that the state of Minnesota's laws are catching up on the protection of our elder population.
A recent headline in the Star Tribune, "Minnesota Legislature approves tougher elder-abuse bill" (Brad Schrade , Star Tribune) reminds us that there are laws in place to protect the most vulnerable of our society. According to the article, such crimes are currently sentenced as misdemeanors where little or no jail time is served by the offenders. The new bill in Minnesota, if passed into law, will enforce 10 years jail time and fines of $10,000 to those convicted of severe neglect and abuse. No matter where you stand on the new bill, the mere argument of how such offenders should be sentenced, calls attention to this issue.
