Eight Signs That Stress is Becoming Too Much

Stress can make you exhausted. It can impact your mental health and physical health. Too much stress can affect your immune system. Don't let yourself become too stressed while helping with your mom or dad's senior care needs. Here are eight signs that stress is becoming overwhelming.

#1 – Changes to the Appetite

You may find yourself feeling hungry all the time and binge eating. You may lose your appetite. Both can be indicators that you're too stressed.

#2 – Depression

Chronic stress can lead to depression. If you suspect you could be depressed, talk to a doctor about seeing a counselor who specializes in anxiety, depression, and stress.

#3 – Diarrhea

Stomach acid production can increase when you're stressed. This can lead to diarrhea. Make sure you remain hydrated and avoid spicy foods that might lead to additional irritation within the stomach.

#4 – Facial Acne

Stress can cause people to touch their face more. The bacteria from the fingers can lead to pimples forming on the skin. Antibacterial face washes can help.

#5 – Headaches

When you're dealing with excessive stress, tension headaches are common. Tension headaches are usually most painful in the back of the head near the neck and in a band around the forehead or scalp. Relaxing in a quiet room or in a bubble bath may help ease the headache pain. If the headaches do not diminish, see a doctor.

#6 – Increased Heart Rate

You may find your pulse increases in stressful moments. That's a normal sign of excessive stress. You need to talk to your doctor to make sure there's nothing else going on, but if it is stress, meditation and fitness programs like Tai Chi and Yoga can help you reduce stress.

In addition to an increased heart rate, you may find your heart seems to skip a beat or almost flutter. Again, this can be a sign of stress, but it's best to talk to your doctor.

#7 – Lack of Energy

Stress can make you feel exhausted. Even if you've had a full night's sleep, you wake up and you lack energy. As the day progresses, you're tired and don't want to do much. This can tie into depression, but it can also be a sign of too much stress.

#8 – Sleep Issues

When you're stressed, you may find it hard to sleep through the night. You wake up and start worrying about something you did, said, or didn't do. You might find your mind going in what seems like a million different directions and have no explanation as to why. The more you fret about that issue, the harder it is to get back to sleep.

Avoid too much stress while providing senior care by arranging respite care. Caregivers will come to your parent's house to help with some tasks while you take a break. Call an elderly care agency to get started.
