In-Home Care . . . Huge Decision

How to know if you or a loved one needs home care?

In the state of New Jersey there are more than eight hundred home care agencies providing non-medical in-home care services to seniors badly in need of this assistance. This results in two dilemmas for families trying to decide whether or not to secure home care services. First, how do you know if you or a loved one in fact needs in-home care assistance? Second, how do you select a qualified caregiver to provide companionship, homemaking, errand running, transportation, and personal (dressing, bathing, toileting, mobility assistance, etc.) home care services that you or a family member may need?

In terms of knowing when the right time to secure home care assistance is, ask yourself these queries: Does the person in question (be it yourself or a family member) get along as well as they did in the preceding years? Is the person in question as independent as they once were or might a caregiver or home health aide provide the in-home care help that will facilitate a recapturing of this lost independence? All too often, aging or ailing individuals view home care as a relinquishment of their own independence. The exact opposite is in fact the truth. The decision to secure home care services will almost without exception aid in the regeneration of an individual's independence and reduce, slow, or even sometimes reverse their decline due to age or illness. Chances are that if someone is asking the question: Would we benefit from home care services? The answer is more than likely yes.
