Did you know that one in three elderly people will have a fall serious enough to restrict their mobility? It's true. In the in-home care business, falls are a big concern. When our caregivers go through orientation, fall prevention is stressed over and over again. Can even the best, most alert caring caregiver prevent all falls? No, they can't. Sometimes the hips and other bones of our eighty and ninety year old clients break causing them to fall. It just happens and it happens quickly.
Obviously, our goal is to mitigate falls and do whatever we can to prevent them by removing trip hazards, shadowing our clients as they ambulate or using a gait belt to keep them balanced while doing so. Our caregivers observe their clients and report changes in condition that might contribute to the possibility of having a fall. At the pre-service assessment, we determine if the client has the proper equipment on hand to remain safe and at home and for the caregiver to safely do their job. If the proper equipment and supplies are not on hand, we will not start the case. When a client starts service with Synergy HomeCare of South Jersey we want the relationship to last and grow. Overlooking or ignoring things and taking shortcuts that could endanger both the client and the caregiver is no way to do business and we won't do business that way.
