Q. What are the most important tips or advice you can give patients or families facing difficult decisions regarding treatment or care?
A. The best advice I have is for them to keep their family around them to help them. I urge them to take the treatment as indicated with the plan from the doctor. And I recommend all the time for SYNERGY or home care to help them with activities and anything not medical. I ask them all the time to tell the doctor if they may have an issue that is not medical because this is an issue all the time nowadays, especially when you're talking about lonely people or old couples who need help.
Q. What else would you like me to know?
I think home health and SYNERGY are very important – a necessary service for a lot of patients. Every patient who is not able to do activities of daily life deserves somebody to help them at home -- not in the hospital -- at home, their home, because the patients want to stay at home no matter what. Home is also one of the best places to die.
