Home Care: Offering lifestyle assistance
As your loved ones grow older it becomes increasingly possible for them to face many trials and lose their ability to function over time. Daily chores, running errands, and sometimes even getting out bed can be daunting for them. Trying to find the answers to whether senior home care or health care living is right for your loved ones can be overwhelming. Today, we’re going to share 5 signs your loved one may need home care.
1.) Absentmindedness: If your aging mother or father can’t seem to remember talking to you a few days ago, they’re constantly misplacing their keys or ask for the same information over and over these may be signs of early Alzheimer’s disease or some form of dementia.
2.) Uncleanliness: If your loved one’s home is filled with piled up garbage, unclean dishes or unwashed laundry (and this is out of the norm), they may need home care assistants to help them out. Another factor to consider is whether your loved one has ongoing poor hygiene.
3.) Accident-Prone: Little things like driving into a curb for seemingly no reason, forgetting to wear a seatbelt while driving or getting easily distracted could be warning signs. If there have been an increase in at-home accidents such as falling down, this is a sign that a caregiver could lend some much needed home care services.
4.) Poor Nutrition: An elderly person refusing to eat proper meals may just be avoiding this task as they can no longer easily prepare food, cook or clean up. Sometimes, forgetful elders will stock up on multiple, unhealthy food items not realizing they already had several of the same things at home.
5.) Personality Changes: If your loved one starts becoming more withdrawn, skips out on family events when they otherwise wouldn’t or becomes easily irritated or moody this could be a sign of Alzheimer’s, depression or other mental health issues. A home care professional could provide essential companionship in this instance.
