Celebrating Halloween with Your Loved Ones

It’s that time again! We’ve reached that first holiday that kicks off a string of fun, family oriented, and sometimes stressful seasonal events. First stop on the holiday whirlwind train- Halloween!

Here at Synergy Homecare, we understand the importance of preventing depression in the elderly by creating strong social and familial ties with them. So we’ve come up with a few ideas on how you can spend time with your aging loved ones during Halloween.

Arts and Crafts

Bring your loved ones over to spend quality time with the grandkids by creating fun and spooky decorations for the evening. Grown or no children? Take your loved one and volunteer for a children’s community or church event.

Passing out Candy

There’s nothing like watching the cute and creative costumes that children of all ages come up with. Sitting outside together and watching all of the costumed kiddies gives both of you the perfect opportunity to sit and reminisce about the past and all the fun both of you had during Halloween.

Baked Goods

Get together and bake up a storm of scary and gross treats for the big night. Then share them with friends, family, and neighbors. Depending on where your loved one lives, nothing says “Hi! Nice to meet you!” like witch’s fingers and bloody potatoes when meeting neighbors in their neighborhood or community center. Check out theFood Network and TLC for recipes and ideas.

Carving Pumpkins

Invite over friends and family and have a pumpkin carving party. Share all those spooky and creepy treats you made with them and have a pumpkin carving party. Swap stories and share creative tips as you spend time with your aging loved one and all the people that both of you love.

Old School Scary Movie Night

Settle in together with popcorn and some of those creepy baked goods (if there’s any left) and get ready to enjoy Vincent Price or The Thing.

No matter which idea you choose or come up with one on your own, Halloween can be another holiday that can make our loved ones feel alone and nostalgic. Call us to find out more about our Companionship Services so that your loved ones will have someone during Halloween and the holidays.

Happy Halloween!
