While you’re committed to providing quality for clients of elderly home care services, there are certain organizations and individuals that try to take advantage of older adults. Unfortunately, there are a variety of scams that target seniors because some people see these individuals are more vulnerable and easily duped. Scammers will use telemarketing, the internet and email to convince seniors to give away money, information and other goods.

Additionally, there’s a good chance your clients have saved up a decent amount of money, and many scams target this nest egg they’ve created. It’s important that you make your clients aware of potential scams, so they will know what to look for and what to avoid. Some common scams include:

    • Medicare/health care
    • Email/Internet
    • Investment
    • Medical Equipment
    • Counterfeit prescriptions
    • Reverse mortgages
    • Lottery/sweepstakes
    • Fake grandchildren

Most of these scams and frauds are to steal money or personal information to take over someone’s identity or bank account. Recommend that your clients never:

    • Sign a blank check
    • Wire money to someone they don’t know
    • Gives out personal information
    • Gives money to try and win a prize
    • Signs documents they haven’t read or don’t understand
