3 spring cleaning tips for seniors and their caregivers

Spring is on its way, which means everyone is preparing for the biggest cleaning event of the year: spring cleaning. If you provide companion care for senior clients, here are some tips to help you clean up their homes for the season:

1. Make it fun
Cleaning doesn't have to be a chore, so try to make it fun for you and your clients. Put on some music and turn it into your clients' daily exercise. Divvy up chores based on what's easiest for them. Things like sweeping and wiping counters and tables don't require much bending or reaching, so they're safe tasks for seniors to do.

2. De-clutter
As you clean up each room in your clients' homes, it's the perfect opportunity to remove some dangerous clutter that could be lying around. Keep a donation box and a trash bag with you as you make your way through the house to get rid of any extra items your seniors don't use, like magazines, newspapers, books and old knick-knacks.

3. Invite friends or family to help
If your cleaning requires any heavy lifting, make sure you enlist some of your clients' friends and family members to give you a hand. Then treat everyone to a homemade meal to say thank you!
