Boro woman named caregiver of the year

Jennifer Newman, a Point Pleasant resident and caregiver for Synergy HomeCare in Shrewsbury, was recently named Caregiver of the Year at the company’s national convention in Phoenix.

Ms. Newman was chosen from more than 3,500 caregivers in the Synergy System.

“We have 70 caregivers working for us, all of whom are caregivers of the year in our eyes, but unfortunately we were only able to nominate one person,” said John Finn, co-owners of Synergy HomeCare in Shrewsbury.  “Jennifer’s commitment to and passion for her clients has always been above and beyond what is required of our caregivers and we could not overlook her dedication.”

Ms. Newman has been a caregiver for Synergy HomeCare for the past 18 months but in 2008 her work centered on three families with whom she formed very unique bonds.

“The story that touched the entire Synergy HomeCare system was Jennifer’s work with an elderly couple in Brick,” said Mr. Finn.  “Originally, Jennifer started caring for the husband after his death, his wife’s health began failing and she needed more care.  While the woman had another caregiver to handler her personal and dietary needs, Jennifer became the woman’s confidante and companion.  Unfortunately the woman passed away, but she was not along.  Jennifer was with her holding her hand, until the very end assuring her everything would be alright and that her husband was waiting for her on the other side.”  “It’s an incredibly sand story but one that makes us very proud of our caregivers,’ said Joel Lucchese, co-owner of Synergy HomeCare in Shrewsbury.  “It’s more than just a job to our caregivers.  They care about their clients as if they were members of their own family.”
