Free seminars focus on memory loss in Mount Arlington

Synergy Home Care and Mount Arlington Senior Living are co-sponsoring a series of three programs about dementia, presented by the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater New Jersey Chapter.

Each will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on  Wednesday, Feb. 12, Wednesday, March 12 and Wednesday, April 2, at MountArlington Senior Living, 2 Hillside Drive.

Wednesday, Feb. 12: “The Basics: Memory Loss, Dementia, and Alzheimer’s Disease”provides essential information everyone needs to know about memory loss issues, the types of dementia, risk factors, diagnosis, current research, and planning for the future.

Wednesday, March 12: “Conversations about Dementia”helps families learn how to talk about some challenging and often uncomfortable topics around Alzheimer’s and dementia - going to the doctor, deciding when to stop driving, and making legal and financial plans.

Wednesday, April 2: “Communication: The Key to Understanding Behaviors” addresses the challenges faced when dealing with difficult behaviors, how to avoid unnecessary arguments and recognize triggers which may result in aggressive or risky behaviors, and gives communication techniques to effectively respond to repetitive actions, recognition difficulties, and anxious or agitated feelings.
