SYNERGY HomeCare Founder Peter Tourian Named Executive Chairman; Franchising Veteran Charlie Young Appointed Chief Executive Officer

SYNERGY HomeCare, a leading in-home care franchisor, today announced that company founder Peter Tourian has been promoted to Executive Chairman. The company also announced that franchising veteran Charlie Young has been named Chief Executive Officer.

Tourian founded the company in 1999 and launched its franchise system in 2005. The company has grown to become one of the nation’s most respected and top performing in-home care providers located in 338 markets, a 194% increase since 2010. Franchise Times recently reported that SYNERGY HomeCare was the third fastest growing franchise in the home healthcare industry with 13.8% year-over-year sales.

A graduate of Arizona State University, Tourian began his career as a deputy in the Maricopa County (Ariz.) Sheriff’s Office before launching his first company, Synergy Staffing, a medical staffing firm, in 1998 at age 26. He then developed SYNERGY HomeCare, one of the nation’s first all-inclusive home care agencies.

Tourian, a franchise industry virtuoso, also founded Elite Backgrounds in 2007 which has grown to become the preeminent employment screening service in the home care sector and franchising industry. Tourian also launched Araya Clean Property Services, the nation’s largest and first franchisor of mobile pressure cleaning services in 2010. He was also founding board member of the Private Duty Homecare Association, an affiliate of the National Association for Home Care and Hospice. Since 2012 Tourian has been an active member of YPO, an invitation-only group of 29,000 young CEOs in 130 countries. He is an active contributor for the Forbes Business Development Council.

“SYNERGY HomeCare has been my passion for 20 years. It has been incredibly rewarding to see our best-in-class system evolve and attract so many caring entrepreneurs into our growing network,” Tourian said. “We are extremely well positioned for expansion. I thought SYNERGY HomeCare would benefit from a fresh perspective as the industry evolves. Charlie Young brings to our organization an incredible background in franchising, with unmatched experience in marketing, operations, franchise sales, recruiting/retention and organic franchisee growth. I’m looking forward to working closely with him in my new role.”

Young spent the last 18 years in leadership at such noted franchisors as Cendant and Realogy Holdings Corp., where he served the last four years as President and Chief Executive Officer of Coldwell Banker Real Estate, one of the world’s oldest and largest real estate brands. He oversaw an international franchise system that grew to more
than 700 franchisees and 3,000-plus offices in 44 countries. Prior to being named to the top position at Coldwell Banker in 2016, Young spent seven years as President and Chief Executive Officer of ERA Franchise Systems, where he gained acclaim for growing revenue by 51%, rebranded the organization and created “Powered By,” an innovative franchise sales growth concept. He sat on the Realogy Operating Committee and Realogy Franchise Group Senior Leadership Team.

A graduate of Emory University, He later worked as a Vice President, Marketing at Cendant Mortgage before being named Senior Vice President, Marketing for Coldwell Banker in 2004.

“It has been impossible to ignore the growth of the in-home care industry,” Young said. “It is a noble profession, where the opportunity to grow and provide outstanding care and service go hand-in-hand. I’ve spent almost 20 years in franchising and gained a unique perspective on the entrepreneurial spirit and the importance of system-wide growth and innovation. I was drawn to the ‘high-touch’ culture of SYNERGY HomeCare’s Franchise Support Center and the brand’s high franchisee satisfaction levels. This is a leading brand that is poised for growth in a critically important industry and I’m looking forward to enhancing our presence, working with Peter and building on
his rich legacy.”
